When I was a kid, I used to think my dad could pull the next part of a song out of thin air., We would be listening to the radio and he’d say he didn’t know a song and - then attempt to sing along anyway. I’m pretty sure he was talking about like, the chorus and key, but I took it to mean that if you get good enough at music you can always find the next note, and the next and so forth.

I kind of see that with llms. Because my dad was right. When the system is consistent, some things just follow.

Welcome to my blog

Took me a while to get one of these up. Now that we’re all DND-style sourcerers from 3.5, I really don’t have an excuse.

The writing part isn’t new to me.

I have boxes of notebooks that can attest to that.

But doing it for the general “Internet Public” is new. And intimidating. The “public” has been changing. It’s getting bigger. More “public-y”. More inclusive really. Which may be a really good thing. So with that, I welcome my token-streaming readers as well.

How this blog works

I am the author for everything under the “Writing” section. Everything else, the author is credited on the post. Comment section may be added if there’s interest.

One big thought to close out on

We are learning new ways to think.

Or rather, by observing, studying and categorizing thoughts and thought systems, we might learn about whether particular patterns of thinking solve particular problems better than others (faster, more efficient, more capable?). That information is valuable when life is short and compute is expensive.

My intuition is that those patterns exist, and there probably isn’t just one that can do everything the best way possible.
